| Church People Are Not Overtaxed...But Under-Challenged! |
|
How many people in your church do you want to see in some type of ministry within your church? I trust you said, “All of them!” While the adage that “20% of the church people do 80% of the work” may be true in some circumstances, our goal as pastors is to see everyone in some form of ministry in the church, contributing to the building up of the saints and the Kingdom of God. We are really thankful for those “multi-taskers” who hold down three areas of ministry in the church, but what about the John Does and Jane Smiths in our congregation who are present but have no area of responsibility to minister to and for the church? Where am I going with this, you say? Everyone has a gift or gifts they can contribute to the Kingdom. Some gifts are obvious, as in Suzy, who has a wonderful singing voice, or Bill, whose demeanor and ebullience makes him a great “greeter” in the foyer on Sundays. Other gifts may not be so evident, or may be hidden from view because there has been no concerted effort to make known the need for such help. I want you to continue to dream BIG dreams for your church and its ministries to your community. Whether it be a wonderful group of Worship Team singers and players (a-ha, you say), Royal Ranger commanders and Missionette leaders, Men’s and Women’s Ministries directors, ushers, greeters, Sunday School teachers, Worship Team singers and players (did I say that already?), Deacons, Trustees, secretaries, bookkeepers, and lastly, Worship Team singers and players J, all are needed for the church to be “the church”! I honestly believe that our church people are not overtaxed but are under-challenged. Change your dreams to a vision, and articulate that vision to your congregation. I would want you to see as part of that vision a full platform of worship singers and players, leading your congregation into His presence. Cast that vision to your people. Continue to cast vision for their spiritual development but also their ministry involvement. Without a vision, the people will dwindle away. Building a great team of worship singers and players to minister to Him will create a wonderful atmosphere of His Presence in our services. That’s where I want to be! |
| Get Involved My name is Ken Bryars and I am the District Music Coordinator for the Southern New England District. I work under the auspices of the District Superintendent's office and coordinate all music for district events, including District Council, Minister's Retreat and the Church Ministries Conference. I also plan and conduct our annual "Southern New England District Music & Worship Conference" and provide assistance to our churches relating to music, sound and the developing of music ministries throughout our District. I am here to help you. Although I have the responsibility of being Minister of Music in my church, I am available to come to your church and help you with the development of your music ministry. Whether it be helping design your music ministry program at your church, recruiting, encouragement, sound and video needs, or resources, I am available to help. I am also the contact person regarding churches needing Music ministers and, conversely, Music ministers looking for a place of ministry within the churches of our SNED family. Call 413-789-2930 or e-mail Kbryars@bethany-ag.org me for information or inquiry as to how I can help you. |
